Monse brings warmth, curiosity, and a sense of discovery to every math session. Currently a fifth-grade science teacher at Alta Vista School, and previously a second-grade teacher at The Hamlin School, Monse has experience working with students across a wide range of ages, abilities, and learning styles. Her background in inquiry-driven science education shapes the way she approaches math: not simply as a set of procedures to master, but as a way of making sense of patterns, relationships, and how the world works.

Monse is passionate about creating a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and wrestling with ideas that don’t come easily at first. Her teaching is patient, upbeat, and encouraging, while still intellectually rigorous. She is equally comfortable helping a student strengthen foundational skills or challenging an advanced learner to reason more deeply, make connections, and approach a problem from multiple angles.

At Girlmath, Monse blends skill-building with exploration, emphasizing conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and problem-solving. She especially loves helping students experience those satisfying “aha!” moments when something that once felt complicated suddenly makes sense—and showing them, along the way, just how capable they are as mathematical thinkers.
