Katrina Madsen, “Ms. Madsen”

Writing Tutor & Consultant

Katrina Madsen is an experienced writing educator who helps students develop clarity, confidence, and ownership in their voice. She brings a thoughtful, flexible approach to instruction—grounded in deep expertise and a genuine commitment to each student’s growth as both a writer and a thinker.

Katrina holds three California Clear teaching credentials, is a National Board Certified Teacher, and earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She has taught in a wide range of schools and communities in San Francisco, including teaching alongside Girlmath founder Arielle Silver at The Hamlin School for Girls. She remains committed to current best practices that make writing more accessible, rigorous, and meaningful for every learner.

Her teaching is highly responsive—to the needs of the individual student, to the long-term goals of the family, and to what is developmentally appropriate and achievable within the time they have together. Rather than relying on formulaic strategies, Katrina offers expert guidance and customized instruction, helping students articulate what they truly mean with clarity and precision.

At Girlmath, Katrina leads writing workshops and offers private sessions designed to strengthen foundational skills, refine craft, and help students discover the deep satisfaction of expressing their ideas clearly and confidently.
