Sophie Ehlen brings deep expertise and a playful spirit to advanced mathematics instruction. A physicist by training, she earned her B.S. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College, where she developed curriculum for the college’s physics lab and supported her peers as an Academic Excellence tutor.

She went on to teach high school mathematics and has worked with students of all ages in math, physics, and standardized test preparation. She also helped develop a proprietary SAT prep book and currently leads math circles for Bay Area teachers—reflecting her belief that math education should be thoughtful, dynamic, and joyful.

At Girlmath, Sophie supports middle and high school students working at the highest levels. She brings a student-led, concept-first approach to every session—and a knack for offering irresistible “juicy problems” that just might take over your brain until you solve them!
