Mia Anderson, “Ms. Mia”
Math Specialist
Mia didn’t always love math—in fact, she didn’t fall for it until her junior year of college, when a single class (and a few incredible professors) changed everything. She switched her major to Mathematics that very semester and hasn’t looked back since.
After graduating, Mia taught math to first through third graders in Thailand, then returned home to Seattle to join the team at Girls Rock Math, an arts-based all-girls summer math camp. Along the way, she discovered her passion for helping others experience math as something beautiful, creative, and empowering—especially girls. As one of just a few women in many of her college math classes, Mia saw the gender gap in STEM up close and is deeply committed to helping close it.
Mia believes math should be joyful, inclusive, and full of possibility—not rigid or intimidating. At Girlmath, she brings that philosophy to life with both developing learners and those eager for more challenge. Whether she’s helping a student solidify essential foundations or guiding advanced learners to stretch their reasoning, tackle complex problems, and see deeper connections, Mia creates an environment where confidence and curiosity thrive. She brings Girlmath’s mission to life as she develops group lessons and private sessions that spark creativity, precision, and a genuine love of math.
